Carl Berlinger
Abington resident Carl Philip Berlinger has long had an interest in art. He and his parents were friends of Arthur Meltzer and Paulette Van Roekens, and collected their paintings along with those of Ranulph Bye, Walter Emerson Baum, Betty Miller Bowes, Judy Antonelli, Ben Austrian, Harriet Ermentrout and others. His background is in photography, which he taught in area schools while primarily teaching history.
Upon retirement after thirty-three years in the Upper Moreland schools, his wife Ellen encouraged him to investigate watercolor painting with Susanne Okamoto, a noted artist with whom he attended Abington schools beginning with kindergarten. Thus in 2000 he began painting at age 58 and has not stopped since. His photography background leads him to paint whatever he sees, but he is drawn toward Pennsylvania barns and scenes of Philadelphia. Other favorites include flowers, birds, household items and golf courses. He is a graduate of Ursinus College and Lehigh University.
